Taxpayer Protection

Tax formsAn important role of the attorney general is ensuring that taxpayers' money, entrusted to public servants, is spent on its intended purpose. The Attorney General's Office uses two main tools to recover money that was improperly taken from public funds:

  • The Medicaid Fraud and Abuse Division works to recover funds for the state Medicaid program from improper billing, over billing and other fraudulent activities.

  • The False Claims Act allows the attorney general to file lawsuits to recover money that was improperly billed to the state or any local government entity.
