The Office of the Kansas Attorney General’s Public Protection Division has a wide-ranging mission with one overriding priority:  keeping Kansas safe. This is an exciting opportunity to join the Division’s Consumer Protection Section. The Assistant Attorney General (AAG) position in our Consumer Protection Division will represent the state in a variety of matters brought under the Kansas Consumer Protection Act (KCPA). PRIMARY DUTIES 

If selected, you would support our mission to protect the safety and security of Kansas families. You would be principally assigned cases involving the KCPA, the Kansas No-Call Act, the Kansas False Claims Act, and other areas as needed. You should be well-organized, self-motivated, and punctual. A high degree of accuracy and attention to detail is required.

 

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Research, interpret and apply statutes, court decisions, or other legal authority on points of law; Conduct legal research and writing; Prepare pleadings & other legal documents; Draft and argue pre-trial motions; Conduct depositions and other forms of discovery; Participate in settlement negotiations; Participate in court or jury trials
  • Respond to consumer phone calls, emails, letters and other communication
  • Review cases and determine litigation strategyReview cases and determine litigation strategy
  • Direct assigned investigators in gathering evidence to support cases and claims
  • Work within our record retention policies and procedures 
  • Oversee personal case management
  • Presentations to civil groups to enhance community knowledge of scams and self-protection

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited law school
  • Membership in good standing with the Bar of the Supreme Court of Kansas or eligible for admission without examination.
  • A valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) or more years of applicable litigation experience preferred.
