Kobach recognizes Elder Abuse Awareness Month

TOPEKA – (June 17, 2026) – Today, Attorney General Kris Kobach recognized Elder Abuse Awareness Month. To raise awareness, Attorney General staff, in collaboration with the Kansas Department of Children and Families, is conducting a statewide educational tour that kicks off today in Pittsburg.

The topics include durable powers of attorney and financial exploitation, among many others. The statewide elder abuse educational tour date presentations are:

• June 17th - Pittsburg, KS
• June 24th - Hays, KS
• June 25th - Garden City, KS

These presentations are structured for older adults, caregivers, and professionals who work with aging. That could include, but is not limited to:

• Home Health Agencies
• Hospitals
• Adult Care Homes
• Area Agency on Aging
• Senior Centers
• Banking

“During Elder Abuse Month, we stand with Kansas seniors and their families to declare that elder abuse—in any form—is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Whether it is physical harm, financial exploitation, emotional cruelty, or neglect, these crimes strike at our most vulnerable and betray the respect and dignity our elders deserve. My office remains committed to aggressively prosecuting abusers, strengthening protections through legislation and partnerships, and empowering communities to recognize the warning signs and report concerns promptly. Every senior has the right to live with security, respect, and peace in their later years. Together, we will ensure Kansas remains a place where our elders are valued, protected, and safe," Kobach said.
