Attorney General Schmidt announces upcoming open meetings and open records training sessions

TOPEKA – (June 9, 2011) – The Kansas Attorney General’s Office and Kansas Sunshine Coalition will present seminars on the Kansas Open Meetings Act and Kansas Open Records Act at five locations across the state, Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt announced today.

“Open records and open meetings laws keep governments accountable to those who elected them,” Schmidt said. “These training sessions provide an opportunity for elected officials, members of the media and Kansas citizens to learn more about their rights under these laws.”

The schedule for the sessions is a follows:

  • July 18 - Emporia Civic Auditorium, 111 E. 6th Ave. 
    9 a.m.-12 p.m.
  • July 19 - Kansas City Public Library, 635 Minnesota Ave.
    9 a.m.-12 p.m.
  • July 19 - Topeka Memorial Hall Auditorium, 120 S.W. 10thAve.
    2 p.m.-5 p.m.
  • July 21 - Hays Public Library, 1205 Main St.
    9 a.m.-12 p.m.
  • July 22 - Independence Public Library, 220 E. Maple St.
    9 a.m.-12 p.m.

These seminars are free, and open to the public. Space at each location is limited, and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants can register at the Kansas Attorney General’s website, www.ksag.org, or by calling (785) 296-2215 or (888) 428-8436.
