Man guilty of child pornography charges

CHANUTE – (March 19, 2012) – A Kansas man was found guilty today of child pornography charges after pleading no contest in Neosho County District Court, Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt said.

Byron C. Johnson, 43, of El Dorado, formerly of Chanute, pled no contest to two counts of sexual exploitation of a child. Judge Daryl D. Ahlquist accepted Johnson’s plea and entered a guilty verdict on the charges. The crimes allegedly occurred between 2008 and 2009. The victim was 4 years old at the time.

Sentencing has been scheduled for April 19 at 1:30 p.m.

The case was investigated by the Chanute and Iola police departments with assistance from the Wichita - Sedgwick County Exploited and Missing Child Unit and the Heart of America Regional Computer Forensic Laboratory in Kansas City, Mo.

Assistant Attorney General Christine Ladner prosecuted the case.
