Free child ID kits to be offered in Topeka area

Release Date: Sep 17, 2014

TOPEKA – (September 17, 2014) – Free child identification kits will be available at upcoming events in Topeka, Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt said today.

The attorney general’s office, in partnership with Cox Communications, will offer the kits, which allow parents to keep a child’s fingerprints, height, weight and a current photo on hand. This information can be used by law enforcement officials to more quickly locate a child if he or she goes missing.

“Taking a few minutes to plan ahead and discuss safety measures with your children can help keep them safe from harm,” Schmidt said. “Keeping an identification kit with your children’s current information is one easy step that can help them stay safe.”

The identification kits will be available in Topeka at the times and locations listed below:

  •  Westridge Mall, Old Navy store, Saturday, September 20 from 1 to 4 p.m.
  •  Topeka Home Depot, 5900 S.W. Huntoon, Saturday, October 4 from 9 a.m. to noon.

More information on children’s safety, including Internet safety, the Amber Alert program and recent recalls, is available on the attorney general’s website at www.ag.ks.gov.
