Barton County man found guilty of murder

GREAT BEND – (February 13, 2015) – A Barton County jury yesterday found Jeffrey Wade Chapman, 33, Pawnee Rock, guilty of first-degree premeditated murder, Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt said.

 Chapman was charged with the crime in connection with the November 2011 death of Damon L. Galyardt of Great Bend. Barton County District Court Judge Ron Svaty presided over the trial. Sentencing has not yet been scheduled.

 The case was investigated by Great Bend Police Department, Barton County Sheriff’s Office and Kansas Bureau of Investigation. Assistant Attorney General Steven A. Karrer of Schmidt’s office and Amy J. Mellor, Assistant Barton County Attorney, prosecuted the case.
