Release Date: Mar 30, 2016

BURLINGTON – (March 30, 2016) – A Chanute man was convicted yesterday of three counts of rape of a person under 14 years of age, Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt said.

William D. Joyce, 33, of Chanute, was found guilty of all three charges by a Coffey County jury. The charges fall under Jessica’s Law, because the victim was under 14 years of age. Judge Phillip M. Fromme presided over the trial. Sentencing has been set for May 11 at 2 p.m. in Coffey County District Court.

The crimes were committed in April and May 2007. The charges stemmed from an investigation by the Coffey County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant Attorney General Melissa Johnson of Schmidt’s office prosecuted the case.
