AG Derek Schmidt Statement on U.S. Senate vote to confirm Neil Gorsuch to U.S. Supreme Court

Release Date: Apr 07, 2017

TOPEKA - (April 7, 2017) - Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt issued the following statement on today’s 54-45 vote in the U. S. Senate confirming Judge Neil Gorsuch of the Denver-based 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals as an Associate Justice on the U.S. Supreme Court:

“Today’s vote adds to the Supreme Court the important perspective of a Justice who hails from a state without a coastline. Justice Gorsuch’s record while on our 10th Circuit Court of Appeals demonstrates the importance he places on the role of the structural Constitution – the separation of powers and federalism – in the preservation of American liberties.  Kansas has several cases currently pending or anticipated before the high court, and I welcome the opportunity to present our arguments to a full complement of nine Justices.”
