Works appointed to REACH Healthcare Foundation Community Advisory Committee

Release Date: Jul 14, 2020

TOPEKA – (July 14, 2020) – Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt today announced the appointment of Dick Works of Humboldt to the REACH Healthcare Foundation Community Advisory Committee.

Works is a fourth-generation farmer in Allen County and served 24 years as an Allen County Commissioner. His family’s agricultural roots in Allen County date to 1856. Works was instrumental in construction of the new Allen County Hospital and has worked with the Thrive Allen County organization to support programs focused on the health, recreation and education well-being of Allen County residents.

“Dick has been a longtime advocate for improving the health and quality of life in Allen County,” Schmidt said. “I am grateful he has agreed to continue his service to the community by serving on the REACH Foundation Community Advisory Committee.”

The REACH Healthcare Foundation was established in 2003 following the sale of Health Midwest, a Kansas City regional nonprofit healthcare organization, to Hospital Corporation of America. At that time, the Kansas and Missouri attorneys general secured funds from the sale to establish charitable foundations in each state. The purpose of these foundations is to serve the health care needs of underserved residents in Johnson, Wyandotte and Allen counties, where Health Midwest had operated hospitals. The foundation is governed by a 17-member board of directors, with input from the Community Advisory Committee.

Members of the Community Advisory Committee are appointed by the governor and attorney general of Kansas, as well as the Johnson County Commission, Allen County Commission and Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City, Kan. Previous Allen County representatives on the Community Advisory Committee include Angela Henry Eyster, Nancy Maier, Jon Marshall, Georgia Masterson, Gary Parker and John E. Smith.
