Kansas Safe and Secure Firearm Detection Grant Program
Program Overview and Authority
The Kansas Safe and Secure Firearm Detection Grant Program is a $10,000,000 grant program administered by the Office of the Kansas Attorney General to support the installation of firearm detection and screening technologies in Kansas public schools. The program was authorized by a budget proviso enacted in Senate Bill 125.
Funding Availability and Allocation
Funds awarded under the Kansas Safe and Secure Firearm Detection Program shall be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to availability and compliance with program requirements. No individual school district shall receive more than $500,000 in total funding under the program. In addition, $2,500,000 is reserved for eligible schools located within each congressional district of the State of Kansas.
Invoicing and Payment Requirements
Upon issuance of a grant award, the recipient school shall promptly coordinate with the State-selected vendor to prepare and submit an invoice for payment to the Office of the Attorney General, subject to the availability of appropriated funds. The grant award letter shall specify a binding deadline for invoice submission. Failure to submit a complete and timely invoice by the stated deadline shall result in automatic withdrawal of the grant award, and the withdrawn funds shall be reallocated to the next eligible school on the waitlist within the same congressional district.
