Release Date: Jan 09, 2014

WELLINGTON – (January 9, 2014) – A Sumner County man was sentenced today to nearly 19 years in prison after pleading no contest to second-degree murder, Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt said.

Spencer Weikal, 24, Wellington, was sentenced to 227 months in the Kansas Department of Corrections by Sumner County District Judge William R. Mott. Weikal pleaded no contest in November to charges of second-degree murder, child abuse and child endangerment. Weikal was accused of causing the death of 2-year-old Larrissa Foster.

The charges stemmed from an investigation by the Wellington Police Department and Sumner County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant Attorney General Lee Davidson of Schmidt’s office prosecuted the case.
