Kansas Supreme Court says Constitutional requirement for school-funding equity is met

Release Date: Jun 28, 2016

TOPEKA – (June 28, 2016) – The Kansas Supreme Court today held that the Legislature has equitably funded Kansas schools in compliance with the state Constitution, Attorney General Derek Schmidt said. The order was issued this afternoon, one day after the attorney general and the plaintiffs in the school finance litigation jointly asked the Court to approve the Legislature’s work on equity from the recent special legislative session.

“It’s official,” Schmidt said. “The Legislature has satisfied the Constitution’s requirement for equitable school funding, and Kansas public schools will remain open and operating.”
