Mississippi man sentenced to more than 12 years for attempted murder, aggravated robbery

PRATT – (October 16, 2017) – A Mississippi man was sentenced today to more than 12 years in prison for attempted murder and aggravated robbery, Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt said.

Alex Bridges Deaton, 28, Philadelphia, Mississippi, pleaded guilty in July to the two charges, which stemmed from a March incident at a Pratt convenience store. Pratt County District Court Judge Francis Meisenheimer sentenced Deaton to 155 months to be served in the Kansas Department of Corrections. Deaton also faces charges in Mississippi.

The case was investigated by the Kiowa County Sheriff’s Office, Pratt Police Department, Rush County Sheriff’s Office, Kansas Bureau of Investigation and Kansas Highway Patrol. Assistant Attorney General Jessica Domme of Schmidt’s office and Pratt County Attorney Tracey Beverlin prosecuted the case.
